- In 1991, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) was formed to promote the benefits of breastfeeding.
- Theme of this year is "Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a difference for working parents".
- The WHO states that breastfeeding could save the lives of 8,20,000 children below the age of five years annually.
