World Breastfeeding Week - August 01/07

  • It is celebrated globally to raise awareness and promote the importance of breastfeeding for the health and well-being of both infants and mothers.
  • In 1991, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) was formed to promote the benefits of breastfeeding.
  • Theme of this year is "Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a difference for working parents".
  • The WHO states that breastfeeding could save the lives of 8,20,000 children below the age of five years annually.
