- The General Conference of UNESCO approved the commemoration of a World Day for Audio-visual Heritage in 2005.
- It aims to raise awareness of the significance and preservation risks of recorded sound and audio-visual documents (films, sound and video recordings, radio and television programmes)
- This year’s the theme is "Engage the Past Through Sound and Images".
