- This day was first observed as a global movement in 2009.
- This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the disturbing reality of sexual abuse and trafficking, and empowering individuals and communities to fight back against these heinous crimes.
- The day also aims to promote and protect the rights of victims of sexual exploitation.
- It is estimated that every second of the day, an average of eight people is trapped by international criminal networks for sexual exploitation, trafficking, and enslavement.
- The U.N. General Assembly designated July 30 as World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
