World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims – November 15

  • On 26 October 2005, the United Nations endorsed it as a global day to be observed every third Sunday in November each year.
  • It was started by the British road crash victim charity, Road Peace, in 1993.
  • India is the second largest country in the world after China to lose a greater number of lives in road accidents.
  • In India, Good Samaritan law was passed to provide legal protection to bystanders who assist accident victims.
  • This law was included in the Motor Vehicle Act 2019.
  • 30 March 2020 was first celebrated as Good Samaritan Law Day in India by Thozhan, an NGO based in Chennai.
