This day highlights the importance of promoting social justice by addressing issues such as unemployment, poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, human rights and social protection.
On November 16, 2007, the UNGA declared this day starting from the 63rd session of the General Assembly.
On June 10, 2008, the International Labour Organization (ILO) unanimously endorsed the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization.
The theme of 2024 is "Bridging Gaps, Building Alliances".
