World Heritage Week - November 19th to 25th

  • The week-long celebration aims to create awareness about the importance of culture and traditions and the need to protect them.
  • In India, around 3691 monuments are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
  • At present, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number (745) of ASI-protected monuments.
  • 40 heritage sites across India are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites which include 32 cultural, 7 Natural, and 1 Mixed site.
  • At present Maharashtra has 5 UNESCO World Heritage sites, the highest among all the Indian states and UTs.
