- The United Nations General Assembly accepted a resolution to celebrate World Hydrography Day on every June 21 in 2005.
- It was approved and implemented by the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO).
- 2022 marks the 101st anniversary establishing the International Hydrographic Organization.
- The theme for 2022 is: "Hydrography - contributing to the United Nations Ocean Decade".
