- It is observed following a declaration led by UNESCO member states.
- This year marks the 1st observance of this day.
- It was adopted during 41st session of UNESCO in 2021.
- The theme for this year is ‘Kiswahili for peace and prosperity’.
- Kiswahili language is widely spoken in Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
- It is the only African language, to become the official language of African Union.
- It is also the first African language that United Nations has recognized in this manner.
