- The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) recently released its World Migration Report 2024.
- The current global estimate is that there were around 281 million international migrants in the world in 2020.
- It equates to 3.6 percent of the global population.
- Europe and Asia each hosted around 87 and 86 million international migrants, respectively.
- Global displacement is at a record high, with the number of internally displaced at around 71.2 million
- The number of refugees and asylum seekers at 40.7 million.
- India is ranked 13th as the destination country for immigrants, with 4.48 million immigrants.
