- The day aims to create awareness of patient safety and urge people to show their commitment to making healthcare safer.
- The risk of patient death occurring due to “a preventable medical accident” while receiving health care, is estimated to be 1 in 300.
- Globally, 134 million adverse events contribute to 2.6 million deaths each year due to unsafe care.
- The focus of this year's International Day is “Safety Culture at All Levels”.
