- It highlights problems of overpopulation.
- The day also raises awareness about effects of overpopulation on environment and development.
- This year theme of World Population Day 2021: “the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on fertility”.
- First World Population Day was observed on July 11, 1989.
- This day was established by Governing Council of United Nations Development Programme.
- This day was suggested by Dr. K. C. Zachariah when the World population reaches Five Billion.
