- It was first declared as the World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969.
- In India, the day acknowledges the beginning of National Postal week, celebrated from October 9 to October 15.
- Theme for 2023 is "Together for Trust: Collaborating for a safe and connected future."
