  • As per the WHO, Preterm is defined as babies born alive before 37 weeks of pregnancy are completed
  • It also includes categories of extremely preterm (less than 28 weeks), very preterm (28 to 32 weeks) and moderate to late preterm (32 to 37 weeks).
  • Preterm birth, the birth of an infant before 37 weeks of pregnancy, is the largest contributor to infant death.
  • Kangaroo mother care is a method of care for preterm or premature babies.
  • It is a skin-to-skin contact for premature babies.
  • The theme for this year is 'A parent's embrace: a powerful therapy. Enable skin-to-skin contact from the moment of birth'.
