World Press Freedom Day – May 03

  • It aims to inform that freedom of the press and freedom of expression are fundamental human rights.
  • The day also provides a chance to pay tribute to media professionals who risked or lost their lives in the line of duty. 
  • This year’s theme is “Journalism under digital siege”.
  • UNESCO adopted the Windhoek declaration on May 3 in 1993.
  • That aimed toward the ‘development of a free, independent and pluralistic press.
