- The International Union of Soil Sciences recommended to celebrate this day.
- Under the leadership of Thailand, the FAO supported the formal establishment of World Soil Day.
- It corresponds with the official birthday of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand
- It was first celebrated in 2014.
