  • This day was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 2002.
  • It commemorates the birthday of the late King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej.
  • He had worked for raising the awareness of the importance of sustainable soil management and rehabilitation for food security, poverty alleviation and more.
  • The theme for 2024 is “Caring for soils: measure, monitor, manage”.
  • India’s soil has been facing widespread deficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus for a long time.
  • The Potassium deficiency became more prevalent in the 1990s, and sulphur deficiency emerged as a major problem in the 2000s.
