- The 2022 theme is ‘Making the Invisible Visible’.
- It explores how inadequate sanitation systems spread human waste into rivers, lakes and soil, polluting underground water resources.
- The world aims to meet the promise of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.2: to ensure safe toilets for all by 2030.
- The UN General Assembly declared this Day in 2013, after Singapore had tabled a resolution in this regard.
- It is the first resolution by Singapore before the UN's General Assembly of 193 member states.
- UN-Water is the official convener of World Toilet Day.
