Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27.
On September 27, 1970 statutes of UNWTO were adopted.
The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.
The theme of celebration for the year 2019 is "Tourism, A Key Sector in the World".
2019 Host Nation
Since 1997, UNWTO designates a specific country has host of the celebrations.
In 2019, India is the World Tourism Day host and it is observed in India under the theme “Tourism and Jobs: A better future for all”.
