  • 24 March commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert announced that he had discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus.
  • The theme of World TB Day 2021 - 'The Clock is Ticking'.
  • Tuberculosis is one of the biggest health issues in India.
  • It is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
  • These bacteria attack the lung, kidney, spine, and brain.
  • In 2020 the Indian government announced to eliminate TB from the country by 2025 through its National TB Elimination Program.
  • Nikshay Poshan Yojana is a government scheme in India to provide 500 rupees per month for tuberculosis patients to buy food.
  • It is one of eleven official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).
