- In the year 1992, March 22 was first officially added in the schedule 21 of United Nations Conference on Environment and Development as World Water Day.

- World Water Day is coordinated by UN-Water in collaboration with governments and other partners.
- UN-Water is the UN’s inter-agency collaboration mechanism for all freshwater related issues.
