This day began with efforts led by Hillary Clinton, the then US Secretary of State, during the “Wildlife Trafficking and Conservation” event held on November 8, 2012.
The theme for 2024 is "Connecting the People and Planet: Exploring the Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation".
