  • The plenary session of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) adopted proposals for the formulation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).
  • It aims for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035.
  • The party also hints at the continuation of President Xi Jinping in power for the next 15 years up to 2035.
  • A constitutional amendment in 2018 has removed the two five-year term limits for the President.
  • Earlier, a constitutional bar was introduced by Deng Xiaoping in 1982.
  • It prevented China’s president from serving more than two terms.
  • His second term as the president is due to end in 2022.
  • He is holding the posts of party General Secretary, head of the military besides the Presidency.
