‘India Climate Change Knowledge Portal’

  • The Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar virtually launched this portal.
  • The portal will hold major information about the steps taken by the government at both National and international levels to address climate change issues.
  • India is the only G20 country that is on track to meet the 2015 Paris agreement.
  • India has successfully achieved its voluntary target of reducing the emission intensity of GDP by 21 percent over 2005 levels, by the year 2020.
  • India is also poised on achieving a 35% reduction well before the target year 2030.
  • The following are the three national determined contributions of India
  • To reduce emission intensity of GDP by about one-third by 2030
  • To achieve 40% of installed capacity of electricity from non-fossil fuel sources
  • To achieve additional carbon sink of 2.5 billion to 3 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent forest cover for tree cover by 2030.
